  • Overview

    It is temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is most ancient and spiritually significant Shiva temples in Konkan. Located on the river of :Mrudani" River, this river came down from back rock to form a waterfall called as "Kotitirtha". Temple also known for its architecture, intricate carvings.

It is a pilgrimage site, many devotees came here during Mahashivratri festival, Ramnavami, Hanuman Jayanti, Dasara, Diwali. Biggest one is of Mahashivratri. The name Dhootpapeshwar means "THE LORD WHO WASHES AWAY THE SINS" a place where devotees come to purify the mind and soul. Most remarkable feature of temple is continous flow of water over the Shivlinga, beleived to be natural.

Its architecture has Konkan craftmanship with wooden "Sabhamandap", and block stone "Garbhagriha". Here the priest arrange a game of Saripat for Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati before closing the sanctum. Devotees believe that by morning the pieves are msyteriously scattered.

This temple has history of more than 900 years, it is from "Chalukya Era". It is one of temple of Lord Shiva from the 12 temple which was build early in that duration.

There are many temple in surrounding of the main temple like Virbhadra Temple, Kalbhairav Temple, Datta Temple, Kameshwar Temple, and statue of Lord Hanuman, Ganpati and Vishnu.

  • Time to visit

    Time to see waterfall is between July to November when the mansoon is going on and after 3 to 4 months after mansoon.
